What is natural loofah?

Natural luffa, also known as vegetable loofah, is the fibrous structure obtained from the interior of the mature, dried fruit of this plant.
Once processed, it forms a network of firm, porous, natural fibers that can be incorporated into the soap base. In this variety, the fiber is fine, which facilitates its integration into the bar and allows it to be used as a support for physical exfoliation during use.

Its firmness when dry is a natural characteristic of plant fiber. When it comes into contact with water during soap use, the loofah becomes hydrated and more flexible.

What is loofah used for in soap making?

Natural loofah for soap making is mainly used to make handmade exfoliating soaps intended for body care.

It allows you to create original bars in which the plant fiber and soap form a single piece, incorporating physical exfoliation directly into the soap.

It can be used both in individual soaps made with loofah slices and in blocks of soap with loofah that are subsequently cut into bars.

How to use loofah to make soap?

1. With loofah slices
• Place a completely dry loofah slice inside a silicone mold.
• Melt the glycerin soap base following the corresponding instructions.
• Add the colorant, aromatic essence or essential oil at the recommended dosage for the base used.
• Slowly pour a small amount of soap onto the loofah and gently press with a clean utensil to help the base penetrate between the fibers.
• Finish filling the mold and tap it lightly on the work surface to help release any trapped air.
• Allow to cool completely before unmolding.

2. With the 15 cm piece of loofah
• You can cut the piece into slices of the appropriate thickness for your molds and follow the procedure above.
• It can also be introduced into a compatible tubular moldPour the soap base until the fibers are completely saturated and, once the block has solidified, cut it into individual bars.
• Loofah is not dosed by percentage: the amount needed to fit the size and shape of the mold should be used.
