What is the difference between Salvia Officinalis and Salvia Clarea?

Sage has been respected since ancient times for its medicinal and therapeutic properties. However, within the diversity of the Salvia genus, there are different species with different properties and benefits. Two of the most prominent are Salvia Officinalis and Salvia Sclarea.
Although both are called "sage", their characteristics and uses differ significantly:

🔹Salvia Sclarea essential oil (Clary Sage): Obtained by steam distillation of its leaves and flowering parts, this oil has a softer, earthier and slightly sweet aroma, less aggressive than that of Salvia Officinalis.
It is especially valued in aromatherapy for its relaxing and balancing properties, being excellent for mental relaxation and emotional well-being.
🔹Salvia Officinalis essential oil: This oil is mainly extracted from the dried leaves of the plant. Its aroma is intense, with herbal and camphorated nuances. It is known to contain compounds like thujone, cineole, and borneol.
En aromatherapy, this oil is valued for its anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial and antioxidant properties. It acts as a revitalizing agent, being ideal for those seeking to energize the mind and body.

While both essential oils are derived from plants called "sage", their properties, aromas and applications are different. When deciding between these oils, it is important to consider personal needs and preferences. If you are looking for one revitalizing and toning experience, Salvia Officinalis is the right choice. On the other hand, for those seeking relaxation and emotional balance, spirituality and energy cleansing Salvia Clarea is the recommended option.
